QUINOA AREPA

What is a Quinoa Arepa?

The "quinoa arepa" is a modern variation of the traditional arepa, incorporating quinoa into its preparation. While quinoa originates from the Andean region (mainly from countries like Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia), the traditional arepa is native to Venezuela and Colombia.

Therefore, the quinoa arepa does not have a specific traditional geographical origin but is rather the result of a modern culinary fusion, combining an Andean ingredient (quinoa) with a typical preparation from Venezuela and Colombia (the arepa).

Where is Quinoa from?

Quinoa originates from the Andean region of South America, specifically from countries like Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. This plant has been cultivated in the Andean region for thousands of years, where it has been a staple food for pre-Columbian civilizations such as the Incas.

Quinoa was primarily grown at high altitudes, in arid and mountainous areas where other crops did not thrive as well. Due to its ability to grow in harsh conditions and its high nutritional value, quinoa was an important part of the diet of Andean communities.

In recent decades, quinoa has gained popularity worldwide due to its nutritional benefits, and today it is cultivated in many other parts of the world, although most of the production remains in the Andes.
